we spent the day in Dublin. the weather was nice so we strolled through St. Stephen's Green park, then we went to Trinity College and to Dublin's art gallery after that. we had our lunch in Temple Bar where we managed to get real Irish fare, then we were off to the history museum. very interesting, there was a nice collection of ancient findings and a few mummies they found in the Irish bogs. it's quite amazing to see how cultures throughout Europe at the beginning of time, all shared more or less the same tools, pottery and ornaments. there was obviously some trade among the different regions. it's been quite a tiring day with a lot of walking, but Philippa made sure we had plenty of coffee breaks too… :)
it's quite amazing to see how all large cities are alike… another thing I didn't expect was the likeness between Ireland and Britain. what with all the hatred of the Irish towards the Brits, I'd have thought they would have taken as much distance as possible from anything UK, but honestly, if I were beamed down StarTrek style to these parts of the world I couldn't tell the difference if not for the currency and the use of km instead of miles.
tonight we relaxed watching the latest Star Trek dvd -the prequel- until a power-cut sent us to bed. and tomorrow we're moving south.
